It is Jack Kirby's birthday, he would have been 96 years old today. It is impossible to overstate Jack's contribution to comics or twentieth century culture for that matter. Here is a small salute to the King.

Criticised at the time, Jack's mid seventies run on Captain America is one of my fondest Bronze Age memories. So in honour of the King's birthday here is a trip down memory lane:

Please remember the King today and read some Kirby!
A fitting tribute to the artist who created or co-created so many iconic characters and series. Without him, there might have been no Marvel Comics in the Silver and Bronze Ages. At the very least, the Golden and Silver Ages would have been very different, and the poorer for it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for selecting all these wonderful covers of my grandfather Jack. I will enthusiastically post this link on my kirby4heroes Facebook page!
DeleteThank you for taking the time to post on my blog! Any tribute I could post for Jack Kirby would be woefully inadequate in expressing the joy and wonder his work has brought to the lives of millions of people. Your grandfather was a true titan of the twentieth century.
DeleteCool to hear from Miss Kirby here. It is a nice tribute and some fantastic covers from a run I really enjoyed. I associate this stuff with a lot of great memories.
ReplyDeleteA visit from a member of the Kirby family makes the blog worthwhile. Thanks for your kind comments.
